Korean Bossam & Jokbal
Located in Koreatown, JangTuh Bossam is a casual Korean restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of Korean dishes centered around bossam and jokbal. Even in the afternoon after lunch hours, the steady flow of customers showed just how popular this place is. It’s a great spot for everything from solo dining to family meals, making it a perfect place to drop by when you crave Korean food.

The menu featured a variety of appetizing Korean dishes, including the signature bossam and jokbal. From rich soup dishes to spicy stir-fries, there was an abundance of choices, making it a bit challenging to decide. During this visit, we opted for the bossam & jokbal set, budae jjigae, and osam bulgogi. Each dish had its own unique charm, allowing us to enjoy a hearty meal like a full spread.

True to its signature status, the generous portions and neat plating immediately caught our attention. The bossam was tender and not too thick, making it easy to eat in one bite. When paired with shrimp sauce, the savory and salty balance was just right. The gently warmed meat had a subtle meaty aroma, and when enjoyed with kimchi or radish wraps, it remained delicious without being greasy. The jokbal had a chewy texture with a hint of sweetness, and its light oiliness left a clean aftertaste. With a variety of side dishes, napa cabbage, and lettuce wraps, it offered multiple combinations to suit different tastes, resulting in a satisfying overall meal.
The budae jjigae was enticing with its bubbling sounds and the savory aroma wafting through the air. The broth, lightly infused with cheese flavor, was rich yet clean, and it was generously packed with ham, sausage, tofu, and ramen, making it a hearty meal. The mild spiciness allowed for comfortable enjoyment until the end, and when paired with rice, the umami of the broth was enhanced. It also complemented the side dishes well, creating a nice overall balance. The osam bulgogi, with its subtle smoky flavor, had a sweet and spicy seasoning that coated the squid and pork belly evenly, delivering a rich taste with every bite. The chewiness of the squid and the tenderness of the pork belly harmonized beautifully, adding to the enjoyment of each bite, and the generous portions were more than enough for two people. Enjoying it with rice brought out the spiciness even more, making it a fulfilling meal that ended on a clean note.
