Joong Hwa Ru

Korean Chinese Restaurant

Located in Koreatown, Joong Hwa Ru is a Chinese restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of familiar Chinese dishes such as Jajangmyeon, Jjamppong, sweet and sour pork, and fried rice, making it a great place to visit when you’re craving a hearty meal without any fuss.

We visited around 4 PM, an early dinner time, and despite the odd hour, there was a steady stream of customers looking to enjoy a meal, and takeout and delivery orders were continuous, showcasing the restaurant’s popularity. That day, we ordered a variety of dishes starting with Jajangmyeon, followed by Chadol Jjamppong, sweet and sour pork, shrimp fried rice, and fried dumplings, allowing us to taste a range of Chinese dishes all in one sitting.

The first dish we tried, Jajangmyeon, featured a sweet and savory sauce that paired well with the chewy noodles, and it was mild enough for anyone to enjoy without hesitation. It had a good amount of vegetables and meat, staying true to the basics of a satisfying bowl. The Chadol Jjamppong looked hearty with generous portions of beef and vegetables, making my mouth water even before tasting it. The broth was rich yet not spicy or overpowering, allowing for a comfortable enjoyment until the end, and the generous slices of brisket added a nutty flavor. The seafood and vegetables blended well, creating a balanced overall taste. If you prefer spiciness, there is a separately prepared spicy Jjamppong option, so it might be worth trying based on your taste.

The sweet and sour pork had a crispy batter and moist filling, providing a great texture, and the sauce reminded me of the familiar taste of sweet and sour pork from my school days. It was pleasantly tangy and sweet without being too runny, complementing the fried pieces well, and we could enjoy it deliciously without any sogginess until the end. The shrimp fried rice was impressively seasoned with a savory flavor, and the fluffy rice was well-fried. Mixing it with the accompanying Jajang sauce created another harmonious taste, making it even more satisfying. The fried dumplings were larger than expected, with a crispy exterior and a crunchy texture inside. Despite being fried, they had a clean taste overall, likely due to the crunchy vegetables inside. Surprisingly, it was a side dish that we enjoyed a lot, so I would recommend ordering it if you visit.
