Thick Beef Tongue Grilled at Your Table, Chubby TAN

Thick beef tongue is sizzling nicely on the mini grill placed on each table. Chubby TAN offers a Japanese-inspired dining experience where guests can grill their meat to their desired doneness on their own grills. In the center of the restaurant, there is a large rectangular bar counter surrounded by seating, creating a distinctly different atmosphere from typical barbecue restaurants. It’s a comfortable space to enjoy a meal in a casual yet modern ambiance.

The menu is designed for enjoyment in combos. Combo A features Ultra Thick Beef Tongue, while Combo E adds Japanese A5 Wagyu Short Rib to the mix. Both combos come with Yam Sauce, Wagyu Curry, Lemon, Wagyu Sauce, Wagyu Beef Tongue Soup, and Salad, allowing for a variety of flavors on one table. The basic rice can be upgraded to Ikura Roe Rice, which I ordered to enjoy a more fulfilling meal by alternating between the meat and rice.

The Ultra Thick Beef Tongue, which can be tasted in both combos, immediately catches the eye with its substantial thickness. Grilled to a nice brown on both sides and tasted right away, the grilled flavor on the outside and the unique chewy texture of the tongue are well preserved, and as you chew through the thick slices, the juices and flavors are satisfyingly released. Pairing it with the accompanying lemon or Wagyu Sauce offers another flavor experience, allowing for a variety of tastes from a single type of meat. The Japanese A5 Wagyu Short Rib included in Combo E is also a must-try. Its rich marbling provides a delightful flavor and tender texture, and alternating bites with the beef tongue highlights their distinct charms.

The side dishes are also substantial. In particular, the Wagyu Beef Tongue Soup has a clear and light broth that reminds one of Korean beef radish soup, making it a great accompaniment between bites of meat. Enjoying the Wagyu Curry and Ikura Roe Rice together adds more variety to the meal than just eating meat alone. The Lemon Sparkling Water I ordered has a refreshing lemon flavor and carbonation that nicely balances the rich taste of the meat, and an extra lemon is provided for those who wish to add more lemon juice to their liking.
