Hospital of Emotions

Immersive art exhibition

Hospital of Emotions is an immersive exhibition that allows you to experience emotions in a way that is completely different from traditional museums or galleries. Utilizing the actual hospital building in LA, the space reinterprets patient rooms, operating rooms, hallways, and nurse stations as works of art. Over 70 artists have participated, filling more than 80 spaces with different emotions, allowing visitors to experience a variety of feelings such as joy, love, hope, fear, sadness, and anger as part of a single journey.

The exhibition takes place in the old St. Vincent hospital building in LA. The unique atmosphere of the hospital remains intact, creating a feeling that is different from typical exhibitions the moment you enter. The structure, with its long hallways and patient room doors, becomes part of the exhibition itself, revealing entirely different emotions and atmospheres each time you step into a new space. Rather than simply viewing the artworks, the experience of walking through the space significantly enhances the sense of immersion.

What was most impressive was that each space had a completely different atmosphere. Some rooms were filled with bright and cheerful colors, while others expressed calm and heavy emotions. The familiar space of a patient room transformed into entirely different worlds with each artist, presenting unexpected scenes every time you opened a door. Walls, ceilings, and furniture were all utilized as part of the artwork, making the experience much more engaging when walking through rather than just viewing through photographs.

The reason Hospital of Emotions felt intriguing was that it was designed to allow for personal interpretations of emotions rather than explaining them as if they were definitive answers. Even in the same space, it could feel like comfort to one person while evoking entirely different emotions in another. It wasn’t just about viewing the artworks; there were moments that naturally prompted reflection on one’s own feelings while walking through the space, making various scenes linger in memory long after visiting the exhibition.

The Hospital of Emotions was an exhibition that meant more than just taking pictures; it was about experiencing space and emotions together. If you usually enjoy immersive exhibitions or are looking for unique art spaces, it’s worth a visit. Especially thanks to the unique setting of utilizing an actual hospital, I was able to experience an atmosphere that is hard to find in other exhibitions, and it stood out as one of the special exhibitions that can only be found in LA.
