Casual Vietnamese Eatery
Located in Westminster, Mama Hieu’s is a place where you can enjoy a variety of dishes such as Vietnamese-style fried chicken, garlic butter shrimp, and garlic noodles in a casual atmosphere. I visited to get a sneak peek of the new Hot Chicken Sandwich launching on May 2nd.
We decided to try a variety of dishes, including the Original Garlic Wings, Fish Sauce Glazed Wings, Garlic Butter Shrimp, and the newly launched Hot Chicken Sandwich. While waiting for our order, I could see many customers continuously coming in, which made it clear how popular this place is. Seeing so many people here naturally raised our expectations for the food that was about to be served.
The first dish I tried was the Original Garlic Wings. The moment I took a bite, the crispy texture and rich garlic flavor instantly captured my taste buds. It was impressive that they were fried cleanly without being greasy. Next, the Fish Sauce Glazed Wings had a sauce with a unique umami flavor that was evenly coated on the wings. The subtle sweetness and salty flavor harmonized well, providing a different charm compared to the Original Garlic Wings. Although I usually don’t prefer fish sauce, I could enjoy these wings without any burden thanks to the strong umami flavor, and I found them much tastier than I expected, so I highly recommend them.
The Garlic Butter Shrimp featured tender shrimp generously coated in a rich garlic butter sauce. The smoothness of the butter and the sharp taste of the garlic blended harmoniously, making each shrimp feel quite substantial. Eating it with the rice that came alongside made it even more delicious, as the seasoning was just right, and the combination of the savory sauce and rice enhanced the overall satisfaction. Finally, the much-anticipated Hot Chicken Sandwich had a crispy, spicy chicken patty paired with jalapeños, tangy pickled vegetables, and a soft bun. The spiciness was definitely noticeable, but it was a clean heat that I could enjoy all the way through. Thanks to the generous amount of vegetables, the crunchiness and freshness added a bright overall feeling. Given that it was a new menu item, I had high expectations, and I was pleased to find that it met those expectations with a satisfying taste.

By tasting each of the various dishes, I could personally feel why Mama Hieu’s is loved by so many people. Thanks to the Vietnamese-style chicken and diverse menu enjoyed in a casual atmosphere, I am already looking forward to my next visit.
