Casual Sushi Spot
Located in Montebello, Oji Sushi & Sake Bar is a casual yet vibrant Japanese restaurant. The spacious interior has plenty of tables, allowing for a relaxed dining experience, and you can enjoy fresh sushi right from the sushi bar. There are also outdoor tables available, making it a great spot to dine outside on nice days. The menu offers a wide variety, from fresh sushi and sashimi to rolls, various appetizers, and noodle dishes, ensuring that everyone can find a meal to their liking.
During this visit, we decided to sample a variety of dishes. We ordered the Deluxe Sashimi, which beautifully showcases the flavors of fresh fish, the Unagi Don topped with sweet and rich eel sauce, and the Broiled Mussel, which was grilled to perfection. Along with these, we enjoyed the Mango Salsa Salmon, which was complemented by a refreshing mango salsa, and a selection of rolls and sushi, creating a bountiful spread. This combination allowed us to truly appreciate the charm of Oji Sushi & Sake Bar, with options ranging from the basics to special menu items.
The Deluxe Sashimi was presented in a large, round bowl, immediately catching the eye with its beautiful presentation. The plating was neat and attractive, adding to the visual enjoyment, and the variety of fresh fish allowed us to fully appreciate each texture and flavor. The smooth texture that melted in the mouth heightened the satisfaction, and the generous portion was enough for several people to share. The Unagi Don featured large pieces of eel generously placed on top of the rice, enticing us from the very first glance. The sweet and savory eel sauce soaked into the fluffy rice, making it a dish that kept us coming back for more. The unique flavor of the eel spread subtly without being overwhelming, allowing us to enjoy it all the way to the end, and the harmony between the rice and eel made for a hearty and satisfying bowl.
The Broiled Mussel was a beautifully grilled dish that brought out a light yet subtle ocean flavor, whetting the appetite. Warmly cooked, it had a soft texture, and the savory seasoning made it a perfect appetizer. It was easy to enjoy and added a touch of richness to the start of the meal. The Mango Salsa Salmon was personally the most impressive dish, featuring refreshing mango salsa atop the salmon, allowing for a delightful harmony with every bite. The rich flavor of the tender salmon combined with the sweet and tangy mango provided a different charm compared to typical salmon dishes. Its clean taste, which seemed to refresh the palate, made it a great choice to enjoy between main courses.
The four rolls we tasted next were generously served on a large plate, and the vibrant visuals left us in awe at first glance. The colorful hues and toppings combined to create a feast for the eyes, brightening up the table with just one dish. The Scream Roll had a crispy texture with a subtle spiciness that kept us reaching for more, while the Vegas Roll featured a delightful blend of eel and spicy tuna, offering a rich yet clean flavor. The Golden Tiger Roll was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, providing a variety of textures, and the sauce completed a rich bite. The Angrytail Roll combined savory yellowtail with a spicy kick, delivering a light yet zesty taste. The sushi also stood out for its freshness. The Sweet Shrimp had a gentle sweetness and smooth texture that was refreshing, while the Sea Urchin filled the mouth with ocean flavors and a deep richness. The King Scallop was plump and sweet, providing satisfaction, and the Yellowtail was light and refreshing, showcasing a commitment to the basics, with each of the four pieces having its own distinct personality that made every bite enjoyable.
Oji Sushi & Sake Bar
This visit, which allowed us to enjoy a variety of fresh sashimi, unique rolls, and sushi, was a perfect opportunity to experience the charm of Oji Sushi & Sake Bar. The spacious and casual atmosphere was great for a leisurely meal, and the menu was abundant, ensuring a satisfying meal no matter who you go with. Particularly, the Lunch Special menu offered a variety of dishes at reasonable prices, and all alcoholic beverages had a 1+1 promotion (the second drink for $0.99), with premium rolls offering a 50% discount on the second one during the 1+1 deal, making it even more appealing. When you want to enjoy fresh sushi and sake together, Oji Sushi & Sake Bar is definitely a place I would want to revisit.
