New Matcha Spot in K-Town
Recently opened in Koreatown, Café Rōk is gaining attention for its rich matcha offerings. We visited around 1 PM on a weekday, and contrary to our expectations of a relatively quiet atmosphere, the café was already bustling with many guests. There were people enjoying coffee or tea, as well as others working on their laptops, which gave us the impression that this place is already making waves.
The interior was clean and minimalistic, yet harmoniously combined with stylish elements. The seating inside was more spacious than expected, making it comfortable whether you come alone or with a group. There were also a few outdoor tables in front of the shop, perfect for enjoying a drink while catching a breeze on a nice day. Since it was our first visit, we wanted to try a variety of drinks, so we chose the most popular Matcha Duo, along with Mugwort Duo, Lotus Einspanner, and Vienna.
First up, the most popular Matcha Duo had the distinct, rich, and slightly bitter flavor of matcha perfectly balanced with milk. The matcha cream on top enhanced the flavor even more, making it a drink that any matcha lover would surely enjoy. It was easy to understand why this place is emerging as a new matcha spot. The Mugwort Duo had a subtle, pleasant aroma of mugwort that wasn’t overwhelming, and it harmonized beautifully with the cream, offering a nutty yet unique taste. This combination had a different charm from matcha, and personally, it was the most impressive drink I had that day, so I highly recommend it.
The Lotus Einspanner featured a generous amount of Lotus cookies atop smooth cream, making it visually appealing and deliciously harmonious. Overall, it had a pronounced sweetness, but the cream provided a smooth finish, and the texture of the cookies was satisfying with every sip. The Vienna was a straightforward menu item, with a slightly bitter coffee topped with soft cream, allowing for a nutty and clean taste without sweetness. It seemed well-suited for those who prefer drinks that aren’t sweet.
