Matcha-Focused Drinks
Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace in Torrance, Yamari offers a variety of drinks made with matcha, as well as ice cream. It is situated in an area where several restaurants are gathered, making it a great place to enjoy dessert after a meal.
We ordered the Mixed Parfait, Matcha Soft Serve, and Strawberry Matcha Fruit Latte from the various matcha-based menu items.
First, the Mixed Parfait features vanilla and matcha ice cream on top of jelly, along with Shiratama, a small round rice dumpling that is a Japanese dessert, and red bean paste known as Azuki, finished with Matcha Sauce. The combination of the smooth ice cream and chewy jelly created a unique texture, and the rich flavor of matcha paired beautifully with the creamy sweetness of the vanilla ice cream. The dumplings and red bean paste added even more depth to the ice cream’s flavor. Next, the Matcha Soft Serve was simpler in taste without any special toppings, but it allowed us to fully appreciate the rich flavor and chewy texture of the matcha. If you enjoy jelly, go for the Parfait; if not, the Soft Serve would be a good choice.
Lastly, the Strawberry Matcha Fruit Latte harmonized the deep and rich flavor of matcha with the refreshing taste of strawberries, resulting in a well-balanced flavor profile that was not overly sweet and quite smooth. Generally, the matcha at Yamari was richer than at other places, and I’m curious about how much stronger the Strong Green Tea menu item is, so I plan to try it on my next visit.
