Historic Bakery in Culver City
Helms Bakery, located in Culver City, is a newly opened space as of last November, curated by Chef Sang Yoon, featuring a diverse setup that includes a café, deli, bakery, and marketplace. It’s a great spot to enjoy coffee or a light meal, and it has enough charm to make you want to linger in its stylish atmosphere.

Helms Bakery operates from Wednesday to Sunday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. On one occasion, I visited in the late afternoon and found that there was hardly any bakery left. If you want to enjoy a variety of menu items, I recommend visiting a bit earlier. On that day, we chose the Sunshine York Egg Salad Sandwich, Olive Oil & Pistachio Buttercream Cake, Cream Puff, Raspberry Donut, and Pretzel, allowing us to sample a range of bakery items.

The Sunshine York Egg Salad Sandwich had a delightful combination of the soft texture of the eggs and the savory flavor of the sauce, making it a light and enjoyable dish. The bread was also soft, and the overall texture was light, allowing for easy enjoyment. The Olive Oil & Pistachio Buttercream Cake was visually appealing and exceeded expectations with its moist cake layers and subtle olive oil flavor that melted smoothly in the mouth. The pistachio buttercream was nutty without being overly sweet, creating a good balance overall, and it finished lightly enough that I could enjoy a whole piece without getting tired of it. The Raspberry Donut caught my eye with its refreshing cream aroma and color; the donut had a pleasantly chewy yet soft texture, and the raspberry cream on top provided a refreshing sweetness that complemented the overall harmony well.
The Pretzel had a golden-brown cheese crust that added a rich flavor, and its chewy texture paired well with the salty taste. The mustard-based sauce served alongside added a surprising zing that harmonized well, enhancing the overall flavor balance. The Cream Puff was perhaps the crispiest I’ve ever had, which was particularly impressive. When I took a bite, the crispy choux pastry and soft cream blended perfectly, and the cream was just sweet enough to enjoy until the very last bite. While all the menu items were satisfying, I especially recommend trying the Olive Oil & Pistachio Buttercream Cake and the Cream Puff.
