Kappo Miyabi

Elegant Japanese Dining

Kappo Miyabi, located in Santa Monica, is a place where you can enjoy a variety of offerings from fresh sushi to skewers and several meal options.

The interior of the restaurant was divided between tables and the bar, and we were guided to a table. Since we were very hungry that day, we quickly scanned the menu and ordered the Lunch Kibako Set, a few sushi pieces, Kushiyaki, and Seafood Chanpon Udon. First, the sushi and skewers arrived, with the sushi including Salmon, Uni, Yellowtail, and Masago, while the skewers featured Scallop, Shishito Pepper, Sea Bass, and Chicken Meat Ball.

The sushi looked fresh and appetizing at first glance, with the Salmon being moderately fatty and soft, the Uni offering a taste of the sea with a hint of saltiness and subtle sweetness, the Yellowtail impressing with its tender texture and nutty flavor, and the Masago bursting with tiny grains that provided both nuttiness and saltiness. The sushi showcased fresh ingredients and natural flavors beautifully. The skewers also had the charm of allowing you to choose from various ingredients; the Scallop was grilled to perfection, chewy yet soft and moist, the Shishito Pepper had a nice balance of spiciness and sweetness, the Sea Bass was buttery soft and delicious, and the Chicken Meat Ball was rich in umami and juiciness, allowing each ingredient to shine while harmonizing together.

The next dish, the Lunch Kibako, consisted of rice, miso soup, various side dishes, and chef’s choice sashimi. It was a generous spread that allowed us to taste a variety of side dishes, making it an excellent choice for lunch. The side dishes included Agedashi Tofu, Miso Glazed Eggplant, Chicken Karaage, Grilled Salmon, Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, and Sunomono Cucumber with Unagi, all six of which were delicious without exception.

The Seafood Chanpon Udon was a noodle dish that highlighted the deep flavor of the broth and the freshness of the seafood, offering a clear and rich umami taste that was not overwhelming, making it addictive and leaving you wanting more. You could especially feel the freshness of the seafood in your mouth, and it paired perfectly with the chewy udon noodles, making it a highly recommended menu item. Lastly, the Homemade Matcha Butter Cake that the manager generously provided as a service was a dessert so beautiful it felt almost a shame to eat. The aroma of matcha and its chewy texture were impressive, and the cream, red bean, and strawberry toppings complemented it perfectly, making it a perfect dessert after the meal.
