Inspiration Point (Emerald Bay)
Lake Tahoe, which we visited during the Labor Day holiday, is a large lake located on the border of California and Nevada, famous for its clean, clear water and beautiful natural scenery. It takes about 8 hours to get there from LA, and we went on a 2-night, 3-day trip. Inspiration Point in Lake Tahoe, where we arrived after a long drive, is known for its breathtaking views of Emerald Bay to the southwest and the surrounding majestic landscapes.
As I gazed at the beautiful scenery where the turquoise water of the lake meets the lush forest, I felt all the fatigue from the long drive vanish in an instant. The next morning, due to an early schedule, we were about to head straight to the hotel, but I felt a bit regretful and decided to stop by for a moment, and I was glad I did.

Sand Harbor State Park
The next morning, we set off early to Sand Harbor State Park, a popular beach park known for its clear blue waters. For your information, reservations are required for Sand Harbor State Park, and the reservations for August opened on July 1. This place is very popular, and reservations fill up quickly, so if you plan to visit, it’s best to prepare in advance for the reservation opening date. (Reservation link)
We headed straight to a rental shop called Clearly Tahoe to ride the transparent kayaks, which we were most looking forward to on this trip. It was easy to find as it was located right in front of the parking lot. In fact, my husband and I were quite worried since it was our first time kayaking, but the staff kindly explained everything, and seeing the clear lake water made us excited to get on the water quickly.
It was my first time in a kayak, and it was a transparent kayak, so at first, I felt a bit scared and awkward, but I quickly adapted. In fact, when we arrived, the sun wasn’t shining brightly, so the water didn’t look very clear, but once we got on the kayak and the sun rose brightly, the lake water transformed into a transparent emerald color, which was truly amazing and so beautiful.
My brother was so excited that he kept paddling without a break, allowing me to comfortably take photos and enjoy the experience. By the way, the Double Completely Clear Kayak we rented could only be rented for one hour, and the price was $125. At first, I was worried about whether I could handle it for an hour, but as we enjoyed ourselves, the time flew by. If you want to fully experience the emerald-clear waters of Lake Tahoe, I highly recommend trying the Completely Clear Kayak.
After returning the kayak, we sat on the beach for a while, eating the fruits we had brought and resting. I felt a bit sad to leave for the next point, but we wrapped up our time by saying we should definitely come back for some water activities next time.
Sand Harbor State Park
Sonney’s BBQ Shack Bar & Grill
After leaving Sand Harbor State Park, we went to Sonney’s BBQ Shack Bar & Grill for lunch before heading to the next point. This was a place I had noticed the day before while passing by, and it looked busy, so I remembered it as a potential good spot and decided to stop by. We were so hungry that we quickly scanned the menu and ordered Baby Back Ribs and BBQ Beef Ribs. Each plate allowed us to choose two sides, and we picked Garlic Mashed Potato, French Fries, Caesar Salad, and Coleslaw.
Baby Back Ribs are tender, juicy ribs that melt in your mouth, offering an exquisite texture. The sauce was sweet, and the meat was well-cooked, rich in flavor without being salty. BBQ Beef Ribs had thick, hearty meat that retained its flavor, and the barbecue sauce was well absorbed, allowing for a delightful chewing experience. All the sides we chose were delicious, but personally, I would recommend the Garlic Mashed Potato and Caesar Salad. It was a great place to enjoy a satisfying lunch with rich flavors and generous portions.

Tallac Historic Site
After a hearty lunch, we moved to the Tallac Historic Site, where the remnants of past ski resorts and lodges are well-preserved. This place offers a glimpse into the history of the Lake Tahoe area from the late 19th to early 20th century, featuring several historical buildings and ruins.
Upon entering the Tallac Historic Site, I felt a serene and tranquil atmosphere, accompanied by the scent of wood.
We strolled around, exploring various spots, where we could catch glimpses of old wooden structures, architectural styles, and daily life, making it an intriguing place to feel the past of Lake Tahoe.
This place is also connected to Lake Tahoe, and as we followed the path through the trees, the lake unfolded before us, which was a truly magical sight. In this location where nature and history intertwine, the clear blue lake visible between the old buildings felt like discovering a hidden treasure.
Tallac Historic Site
Sugar Pine Point State Park (South Boathouse – Rail Tracks)
After leaving the Tallac Historic Site, the next stop is Sugar Pine Point State Park, the final point of this trip. Here, you can find the Rail Tracks that connect into the lake, reminiscent of the train tracks in Spirited Away. It is said that this is where the railway line used for transporting timber and minerals in the Lake Tahoe area remains.
In fact, I was really looking forward to this place because it looked so beautiful in the photos, but perhaps because I arrived a bit late after visiting various spots, the sun wasn’t shining brightly, and the photos didn’t turn out as nicely as I had hoped. I felt a bit disappointed, but I promised myself to come earlier next time I visit.
Rail Tracks
