Casual Sushi Spot
Located in Cypress, Orange Roll & Sushi is a place where you can enjoy a wide range of options from various rolls to fresh sushi and sashimi, as well as a variety of dishes. With many menu items that highlight the clean flavors of fresh ingredients, it’s a great spot to enjoy anything from a light meal to a hearty feast without any burden.
We arrived at the restaurant around 5:30 PM for an early dinner, and there were already many people seated and enjoying their meals. Throughout our dining experience, the flow of customers continued, showcasing the popularity of this place. Among the various menu items, we ordered Baked Mussel and Yakitori as appetizers, and for the Chef Special Roll, we tried Amber and Sunrise, along with an Assorted Sashimi that included Sweet Shrimp, Jumbo Scallop, and Yellowtail.
The Baked Mussel we ordered as an appetizer was impressive, topped generously with crab meat and cheese over the baked mussel, creating a soft and savory flavor. As the cheese melted, it blended well with the crab meat, enhancing the umami taste, and it was conveniently served in bite-sized pieces. The Yakitori was served in three varieties: momo (chicken thigh), negima (chicken and green onion), and tsukune (chicken meatball). The momo was juicy and had a nice tender texture, while the negima, with the addition of green onion, combined the savory flavor of the chicken with a subtle sweetness. The tsukune, made from minced chicken, was marinated in a sweet and salty sauce that made it deliciously umami with each bite.
Next, we tried the Amber Roll, which featured crab meat, avocado, and shrimp tempura for a soft yet crispy texture, enhanced by the crunchy mix on top that added richness. Overall, the combination of softness and crispiness was harmoniously balanced, and the sauce was not overpowering, allowing for a clean enjoyment. The Sunrise Roll combined spicy tuna, avocado, and shrimp tempura, creating a delightful variety of textures in the mouth. Particularly, the pepper albacore on top added a slightly chewy yet soft texture, and the subtly spreading spiciness helped cleanse the palate.
Everything was delicious, but the sushi and sashimi we enjoyed here were especially noteworthy for their thickness and freshness, which were evident in every bite. The Sweet Shrimp had a chewy texture with a subtle sweetness, while the Jumbo Scallop stood out for its soft and moist texture, with a natural umami flavor that became more pronounced with each chew. The Yellowtail had just the right amount of fat, providing a rich yet clean aftertaste. The Assorted Sashimi was generously served with a variety of fish, all of which were very fresh. Each type of fish had its own unique texture and flavor, making it enjoyable to taste them one by one, and they were cut thickly, providing a satisfying chew.
