Casual Sushi Spot in Koreatown with Creative Rolls
Roll Call is a casual dining spot located in Koreatown, where you can enjoy a variety of side dishes alongside sushi rolls. The rolls made with fresh ingredients are perfect for a simple lunch, which is probably why I noticed many people placing to-go orders.
The menu featured a variety of sushi rolls, and I chose the Mistress Roll, Cheating Boyfriend Roll, and Sunkist Roll. I also added a Tempura Sampler as a side and opted for Thai Tea as my drink.
The Mistress Roll was a delightful combination of spicy tuna and avocado, topped with crispy onion tempura and a sweet and spicy dressing that enhanced the overall flavor, making it quite satisfying. The Cheating Boyfriend Roll allowed me to experience the crunch of shrimp tempura and the softness of eel in one bite, providing a rich and nutty flavor that was very enjoyable. The Sunkist Roll, which does not contain rice, features crab meat topped with avocado and fresh salmon sashimi. Personally, it was my favorite roll, as the addition of yuzu dressing highlighted its flavor, making it feel lighter and more refreshing.
The Tempura Sampler I ordered as a side included crispy fried shrimp, sweet potato, zucchini, and broccoli, each providing a unique texture for a variety of tastes. The tempura was not greasy and had just the right amount of crispiness, making it enjoyable in a light way, and the portion was generous. Lastly, the Thai Tea I ordered paired surprisingly well with the rolls, likely due to its not overly sweet flavor. Compared to the Thai Tea I usually have, it was much less sweet, and the strong aroma of black tea made it even better to enjoy with the refreshing rolls.
