DATALAND is a new type of AI art museum where art, technology, and nature connect in real time within a single space. Upon entering the exhibition hall, an overwhelming sense of immersion hits you immediately. In the highlight, the Infinity Room, a massive visual created with over 720 million pixels unfolds in all directions, while 200 channels of real-time sound fill the space. The addition of scents inspired by the rainforest connects the visual, auditory, and olfactory senses seamlessly, allowing visitors to experience the entire space through all five senses, transcending mere video viewing. The visuals constantly change, creating new scenes, and even within the same space, different atmospheres are painted at every moment, making it hard to leave.
Another notable feature of this exhibition is that visitors do not just observe but become part of the artwork. Interested visitors can wear a biosensing device to anonymously reflect signals such as heart rate, skin temperature, and skin conductivity into the artwork. This data operates as a changing element of the artwork, combined with real-time environmental data collected from the actual rainforest. The real-time connection of nature and audience data within a single artwork sets it apart from traditional media art exhibitions.
DATALAND is also noteworthy for being based on the world’s first open-source Large Nature Model (LNM). Unlike typical generative AI that learns from human text, it has built an AI model solely for nature by ethically collecting data from the environment. The fact that nature is expressed in a new way through AI deepens the significance of this exhibition.
