Handmade Soup Dumplings & Authentic Chinese Fare
Located in Glendale Galleria, Din Tai Fung is a place where you can enjoy a variety of Chinese dishes, from their signature Xiao Long Bao to wontons, soups, and noodles. With over 165 locations worldwide, it is beloved by many and is consistently busy due to its enduring popularity. This visit was my first since the location moved deeper into the mall, and I found the restaurant much larger than before, with a more sophisticated interior. The atmosphere felt like that of a high-end restaurant, and overall, it left a cleaner and more organized impression. I was also pleased that the changed space allowed for a more relaxed dining experience compared to before.

Before the meal, we started lightly with Lychee Iced Green Tea and Fresh Orange Green Iced Tea. The Lychee Green Tea, with its clean green tea base and sweet lychee aroma, was smooth and easy to enjoy. The Orange Green Tea harmoniously blended the freshness of orange with the subtle bitterness of green tea, providing a refreshing sensation with every sip. Next, we had Bok Choy, which featured crunchy baby bok choy enhanced by fragrant scallion oil, showcasing a simple yet umami-rich flavor, highlighting the natural taste of the ingredients. Then we tasted the Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Shao Mai, where the chewy dumpling skin enveloped moist pork and bouncy shrimp, creating a rich texture in every bite. The deep flavor of the meat combined with the umami of the shrimp made for a satisfying taste.

The Crab & Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao was a delightful dumpling where the natural sweetness of crab complemented the pork filling, offering a deep flavor experience. The umami of the seafood stood out without being overpowering, and the taste that spread smoothly with the juices was impressive. Having usually enjoyed the pork-only version of Xiao Long Bao, tasting this crab version for the first time revealed a richer flavor profile with a subtle sweetness that added a unique charm.
Finally, the Shrimp Fried Rice and Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons are a combination I always order. The Shrimp Fried Rice featured bouncy shrimp, soft scrambled eggs, and fragrant scallions, creating a clean finish without being overwhelming. The Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons had a soft wonton paired with a spicy special sauce, enhancing the umami flavor. Especially, adding a bit of this sauce to the Shrimp Fried Rice amplifies the umami while adding a gentle spiciness, making it even more enjoyable.
