Colorful Mochi & Unique Fillings
Located in Little Tokyo, Fugetsu-Do is a mochi shop that boasts over 117 years of history, selling traditional Japanese sweets and a variety of mochi.

Mochi, similar to Korean rice cakes, is a traditional Japanese food made by steaming glutinous rice and pounding it into a chewy cake. Mochi is characterized by its lower density and lighter feel compared to Korean rice cakes, and it can be enjoyed in various flavors and shapes by incorporating different ingredients. At Fugetsu-Do, you can choose to pack mochi in boxes of 6, 8, 12, or 16 pieces, and note that card payments are accepted for purchases over $15.

On this day, we tried 8 different types of mochi and Sho-Mochi, and each mochi offered a unique charm and texture depending on the ingredients. Personally, I would recommend the Ogura, which is wrapped in red bean paste, the Uguisu, which is coated in soybean flour, and the Mango mochi, which had a subtle mango flavor and an incredible chewiness. The Ogura had a delightful blend of the nutty and sweet taste of red beans with the mochi, the Uguisu featured the soft flavor and nuttiness of soybean flour, and the Mango mochi showcased the natural sweetness of mango along with its chewy texture.
The striking blue Sho-Mochi, which contains White Ganache Chocolate, had an appealing soft sweetness. The moist, chewy texture of the mochi paired beautifully with the creamy ganache, creating a unique flavor experience that matched its distinctive color.
