Jjamppong Zizon

A Casual Korean Restaurant

Located in Koreatown, Jjamppong Zizon is a place where you can enjoy a variety of Chinese dishes such as Jjamppong, Jajangmyeon, Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Fried Dumplings, with Jjamppong as the main dish. In particular, you can choose from various levels of spiciness, from level 1 to 4 and beyond, making it fun to challenge yourself with spicy food. While the spicy Jjamppong is the signature dish, there is also a good selection of classic Chinese dishes, allowing you to choose according to your taste.

We visited around 1:30 PM on a Saturday, and although it was bustling with people enjoying lunch, the spacious interior and ample seating allowed us to sit down immediately without waiting. It was nice to be able to enjoy a meal comfortably even during busy hours. To taste a variety of dishes, we ordered the Jjajangmyeon (non-spicy), Jjamppong (spicy), Sweet and Sour Pork, Tasting Fried Dumplings (5 pcs), and Crab Fried Rice. We chose a well-rounded selection of dishes with different charms to enjoy the diverse flavors of Chinese cuisine.

First, we tried the main menu item, Jjamppong (spicy). To be honest, I usually don’t handle spicy food well, so I was worried that even the basic Jjamppong might be too spicy, given the restaurant’s reputation for heat. However, it turned out to be less intense than I expected, with a rich and deep flavor in the broth. The noodles had just the right amount of chewiness, complementing the broth well, and there was plenty of seafood, adding a burst of flavor with each bite of squid or mussel. In particular, the deep flavor of the seafood infused into the broth made it increasingly addictive. The Jajangmyeon (non-spicy) had a good consistency in the black bean sauce, blending well with the noodles and offering a sweet flavor. It had a nice mix of meat and vegetables, providing a satisfying texture, and while it was not overly salty, the deep flavor of the black bean sauce made it a great pairing with the Jjamppong.

The Sweet and Sour Pork had a crispy yet chewy texture, with a light batter that wasn’t overwhelming, balancing well with the sweet and sour sauce and keeping the meat moist. Additionally, it was convenient that the sizes were available in S, M, and L, allowing for orders based on the number of people. The Tasting Fried Dumplings (5 pcs) were crispy on the outside and filled with moist meat, providing a delightful umami flavor. They were not greasy and had a clean taste, making them a great side dish to enjoy with Jjamppong or Jajangmyeon. The Crab Fried Rice had fluffy rice grains with well-cooked crab meat, offering a rich flavor. Mixing it with the accompanying black bean sauce enhanced the umami taste, creating a harmonious blend without any greasiness. It was delicious on its own, but adding more black bean sauce brought out an even deeper flavor.
