JOEY

International Cuisine and Craft Cocktails

Last weekend, before heading to Newport Beach, I made a reservation at a restaurant called Joey, which looked beautiful and had delicious food. We arrived around our reservation time of 11:10 AM, and I was surprised to see a long line of people already waiting in front of the restaurant. Since it was Father’s Day, it seemed like there were many families dining that day. After confirming our reservation, we were given some champagne to enjoy while we waited, which was a light and refreshing choice to sip on before our meal.

Feeling very hungry, we quickly scanned the menu and placed our order, choosing the Truffle Parmesan Fries, Korean Fried Cauliflower, Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Tuna Poke Bowl. The first dish to arrive was the Truffle Parmesan Fries, which had a delightful combination of truffle flavor, crispy fries, and the salty taste of Parmesan cheese. The truffle oil added an umami richness that made each bite incredibly delicious.

Next came the Korean Fried Cauliflower, which was crispy and coated in a Korean-style sauce that was sweet and spicy, reminiscent of the chicken sauce I used to enjoy at snack shops when I was younger. Perhaps that’s why it suited my taste so well; it was devoured in no time. The Tuna Poke Bowl featured fresh tuna paired with Carrot Miso Dressing, enhancing the flavor further, and the addition of chili oil provided a subtle spiciness. Plus, the crispy wontons added a delightful crunch to the dish.

Finally, the Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps arrived, featuring chicken with Sweet Soy Ginger Glaze and peanuts, offering a nutty and crunchy experience. When paired with the Spicy Aioli sauce on the lettuce wrap, it added a slight kick, allowing for a variety of flavors and textures in each bite. Personally, this was the most delicious dish among our orders, and as we left, I noticed many other tables enjoying this popular menu item.
