Laki Ramen

Beautiful Authentic Japanese Ramen

Laki Ramen, located in Mid City, is a popular ramen specialty shop known for its variety of ramen, side dishes, and desserts, particularly the Baitang Ramen. Baitang Ramen is a type of Japanese ramen, with the name ‘Baitang’ literally meaning ‘white broth.’ This ramen features a milky and bright-colored broth that boasts a deep, smooth umami flavor and a creamy texture.

We visited the restaurant around 6 PM, and being dinner time, it was quite busy, but fortunately, there were seats available both inside and outside, allowing us to sit comfortably. After looking over the menu, we ordered a few dishes, including the Signature menu items Chicken Baitang Ramen and Spicy Chicken Baitang, along with sides of Karaage and Fried Shrimp Cocktail, and for dessert, we chose Matcha Tiramisu.

First, the Chicken Baitang Ramen stood out with its milky and creamy chicken broth, characterized by a smooth and savory flavor. The broth was rich yet not heavy, leaving a particularly clean finish. The tender Pork Chashu topping and slightly sweet Bamboo Shoots harmonized beautifully with the chewy noodles, enhancing the deep flavor of the broth. The Spicy Chicken Baitang added a spicy kick to the savory base of the Baitang Ramen, making it a recommended choice for those who enjoy a bit of heat. We could choose the spice level according to our preference, and the Medium option we selected was just right—spicy enough to be enjoyable without being overwhelming. The broth balanced creamy richness with a clean spiciness, showcasing a well-rounded flavor.

Karaage is a Japanese-style crispy fried chicken dish that was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was served with a Homemade Tartar Sauce and a soy sauce infused with chili oil, allowing for a richer and more diverse flavor experience. The Fried Shrimp Cocktail featured crispy fried shrimp paired with a tangy cocktail sauce, presented in a small glass with Homemade Tartar Sauce, fried shrimp, and lime, making it visually appealing. The smooth and savory taste of the tartar sauce blended well with the crispy texture of the fried shrimp, and adding lime enhanced the freshness, bringing the flavors to life. It was a visually stunning dish that was satisfying in both taste and texture.

Finally, the Matcha Tiramisu was a dessert that combined soft mascarpone cream with matcha, filling the mouth with a rich green tea aroma. The unique soft texture of the tiramisu was complemented by the slightly bitter taste of the matcha, creating a balanced flavor. As a dessert, it was sweet yet had a hint of bitterness that harmonized beautifully, making it a very satisfying choice to end the meal. Even though we were full, it was so delicious that I highly recommend trying it at the end.
