Made Fresh Throughout the Day
Located near Santa Monica, Layla Bagels and Coffee is a place where you can enjoy sourdough bagel sandwiches baked fresh every morning. We arrived around 12:30 PM on a Sunday and were surprised to see a long line extending outside the bagel shop, indicating its popularity. However, thanks to the many staff members, the line moved faster than expected, and it took about 30 minutes to place our order and receive our bagels.

There were about ten different bagel sandwiches available, and we ordered halves of The Laika, The Lily, The Scarlett, and The Pre-Jam. Each bagel sandwich allows you to choose your preferred bagel, ranging from Plain to Poppy, Sesame, Everything, Jalapeno Cheddar, and Gluten Free, so you can pick according to your taste.

The first one we tried, The Lily, includes tomato, cucumber, pickled onion, capers, and herb cream cheese. It was the most straightforward and classic bagel sandwich among our orders. All the ingredients were fresh and well-combined, making it a flavor that anyone would enjoy. The Laika is a variation of The Lily with added smoked salmon. I thought I wouldn’t be impressed since I’ve had so many salmon bagels, but the smoked salmon here had a stronger and richer flavor than others, making it incredibly delicious. My brother, who loves smoked salmon bagels, praised it highly.
The Scarlett contains tomato, lemon zest, chili flakes, and cream cheese. It looks simple but has a unique flavor. The chili flakes provided a kick; the initial taste was sweet from the tomato, followed by a spicy finish from the chili flakes, creating a complex flavor experience. Lastly, I was most curious about The Pre-Jam, which includes Flavorella Plumcot and Flavorosa Pluot, fruits created by crossbreeding plums and apricots. It is served with cream cheese and drizzled with honey, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and freshness that pairs wonderfully with the cream cheese and bagel. Personally, I found The Pre-Jam to be the most delicious and novel flavor.
