State park in Los Angeles
Los Angeles State Historic Park is a beautiful park hidden between downtown and Chinatown. This location has been a railway site since the late 1800s for about a century. Perhaps that’s why there are still active railway tracks nearby. At one time, the Union Pacific Railroad Company attempted to purchase the land to convert it into a million-square-foot warehouse/industrial space, but local residents and several influential figures banded together to ultimately cancel the development by the Union Pacific Railroad Company. In 2001, the park was acquired by California State Parks and developed into a park for the community.
The park operates from morning until sunset, although there is no specific closing time mentioned, just that it is open until sunset. According to Yelp, it is open from 8 AM to 7:30 PM, which might be helpful to know. At night, the manager closes the main gate, so entry is not possible. Parking is available on nearby street parking, and there is also a parking lot within the park, but it is not free. (Hourly $2, daily $8)
On weekend mornings, there are always many joggers and walkers, making it a space filled with positive energy. Additionally, the view of downtown against the clear sky from within the park is truly beautiful. You can step slightly out of the city and feel a sense of relaxation in life.
The park features various art installations and well-maintained walking paths. It is also a great place to walk your dog. Watching your dog play on the grass brings a smile to their face. However, since this park is not an Off-Leash Dog Park, dogs must be on a leash.
As shown above, you can enjoy a cup of coffee while taking a walk against the backdrop of downtown, gather with friends to chat, and especially on weekends, many families come to enjoy picnics.
