Before entering the exhibition hall, a short introductory video shows how Luna Luna began, highlighting that in 1987, over 30 artists gathered in Germany to create the world’s first art amusement park. Various artistic rides such as carousels, circus performances, and Ferris wheels were unveiled to the public at that time, but plans for a world tour fell through, and all these works were stored away for nearly 35 years.
This exhibition allows visitors to see the actual state of the storage, the torn fabrics, and the damaged props through videos and photographs, providing a sense of experiencing both the past and the present. After years of restoration work, the original details have been beautifully recreated, and the stories of the participating artists are woven throughout, enhancing the immersive experience. Each artwork is filled with wit and creativity, leaving no dull moments, and I was particularly delighted to encounter Keith Haring’s work again, which I had previously seen at The Broad.
The gift shop I visited last was also impressive. There was a variety of goods with stylish designs, and I ended up buying a mug that was just too cute to resist. The shopping bag that held the mug was so beautifully designed that I felt it was too nice to throw away. The exhibition left a lasting impression even on the way out, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in art.
