New Bakery Cafe in Highland Park
The newly opened Modu Cafe in Highland Park means ‘all’ or ‘everything’ in Korean, and it is a cozy place where you can enjoy a variety of pastries, coffee, and tea, making it a great spot to spend leisurely time with friends or family in a comfortable atmosphere.

Additionally, the diverse pastry menu is quickly gaining popularity, establishing itself as a hot spot among local residents and visitors. We arrived just 10 minutes before opening, and seeing the long line behind us made it clear how much people were looking forward to this cafe. As we stepped inside, the cozy atmosphere and the delicious aroma of various pastries heightened our anticipation. We ordered the Tasting Flight, Matcha Latte, and Yuja Passionfruit Spritz, and chose Hojicha Mochi Muffin, Milk Cream Bun, and Kabocha Persimmon Cake for pastries.

The Tasting Flight featured Single Espresso, Single Cortado, and Drip or Flash, and we chose Drip. The Espresso offered a rich flavor that highlighted the essence of coffee, while the Cortado balanced the bitterness of the espresso with smooth milk foam, creating a nutty and creamy taste. Finally, the Drip coffee had a smooth flavor and a clean aftertaste that was appealing. Overall, the nutty flavors stood out, and each menu item showcased its unique character, making it a great selection for coffee enthusiasts to experience a variety of tastes.
Next, the Matcha Latte was a drink that preserved the deep and rich flavor of matcha, enhanced by the addition of House Cream Top, which added a smooth and creamy texture for an even richer taste. The added cream was light and moderately sweet. The Yuja Passionfruit Spritz was a refreshing drink that stood out for its zesty and crisp flavor, with the sweetness and tartness of yuja and passionfruit blending well with the carbonation, making each sip exciting. This is a menu I would recommend to anyone looking for a refreshing and unique drink.
Finally, the three pastries each had their own charm. The Hojicha Mochi Muffin was a pastry that beautifully captured the flavor of roasted green tea, with a chewy mochi texture that complemented the soft muffin. The Milk Cream Bun featured a light texture and soft cream; the exterior was soft and moist, while the inside was filled with sweet milk cream, creating a nutty flavor with each bite. I wondered if the large amount of cream might be overwhelming, but it wasn’t overly sweet, which actually complemented the nutty flavor of the pastry well. The Kabocha Persimmon Cake was a unique cake that combined sweet pumpkin and persimmon, with the sweet persimmon flavor well infused into the soft and moist cake, giving a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. It was a dessert that captured the warm essence of autumn, perfect for enjoying with coffee.
