Nep Cafe by Kei Concepts

Modern Vietnamese Eatery

Located in Fountain Valley, Nep Cafe by Kei Concepts is a Vietnamese-French fusion brunch cafe that features a unique menu composition different from traditional brunch spots. The interior is spacious and elegantly designed, with plenty of natural light creating a relaxed atmosphere, and the ample spacing between tables makes it comfortable for dining. It seemed like the perfect place to enjoy a brunch with a different vibe, and I was particularly intrigued by the variety of drinks, all of which looked delicious.

Since brunch cafes are usually crowded, I wanted to avoid waiting and made a reservation through their website. I had booked for 10 AM, but we ended up arriving a whole 40 minutes early because the LEGO Fan Event finished sooner than expected. There were already people waiting at the entrance, so we thought we would have to wait too, but fortunately, the staff confirmed our reservation and guided us to our seats right away. As soon as we stepped inside the restaurant, the aroma of warm, savory food filled the air, whetting our appetites, and the dishes being served at the adjacent table all looked delicious, heightening our anticipation.

There were so many dishes I wanted to try that I took a while to decide, but we finally ordered the Seafood Ceviche, Crab Toast, and Banh Mi Chao – Filet Mignon, along with Lychee Strawberry Green Tea and Egg Coffee for drinks. The drinks were served first, and the Lychee Strawberry Green Tea was much sweeter than I expected, tasting more like strawberry juice than tea. The lychee flavor wasn’t very pronounced, but it was tangy and refreshing, making it enjoyable like a dessert. The Egg Coffee was served with a custard-like egg foam on top of Vietnamese coffee, along with a spoon. It was a bit unfamiliar at first, but it was smooth and sweet, surprisingly complementing each other well. When mixed with the coffee, it created a more harmonious and smooth flavor, though it felt a bit heavy for me to finish entirely. However, my brother polished it off, so it seemed to suit his taste.

The Seafood Ceviche initially had a hint of the familiar Vietnamese food aroma, possibly from the spices or sauce, but once I tasted it, I found it quite enjoyable without any aversion. The combination of coconut cream and fresh, chewy seafood worked well together, and eating it with the accompanying chips added a nice texture and enhanced the flavor. The Crab Toast featured fluffy eggs and soft crab piled on toast. It had a mild flavor that wasn’t overly salty or stimulating, so my brother said it wasn’t as good as he expected, but I found it quite to my liking. The eggs were soft, making it a great dish for a light breakfast.

The Banh Mi Chao – Filet Mignon was actually more substantial than I expected for an appetizer, and I wondered if I could finish it when it first arrived. However, as soon as I took a bite of the meat, my hands started moving quickly. The tender meat, egg, and sauce piled generously on the crispy baguette made for an excellent combination, and the bread was surprisingly not tough but crispy, which was satisfying.
