Modern and Contemporary Art Museum
The Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) is an art museum located in Orange County, established in 1962. OCMA is characterized by its focus on contemporary art, particularly showcasing the paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, and video art of American artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Admission to OCMA is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance through the website. The first exhibit you will see upon entering the museum is “Color is the First Revelation of the World.” This theme is inspired by the color theory of Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, and the exhibition, composed of shades of blue, encapsulates various histories of the 20th century.
The following photos showcase works by Joan Brown, one of the influential artists from California. Comprising around 40 colorful paintings and sculptures, her works blend autobiographical elements, fantasy, and whimsy, addressing weighty and spiritual themes. The pieces contain amusing elements and satirical aspects, making them enjoyable to interpret.
