Soowon Galbi

Authentic Korean BBQ Restaurant

Located in Koreatown, Soowon Galbi is one of the well-known spots for galbi, and even though we arrived right at the opening time of 11 AM on Sunday, there were already a few people in line, which shows its popularity. It’s famous for having long wait times, so I recommend visiting as early as possible.

Since we visited primarily to eat galbi, we ordered both the fresh galbi and marinated galbi. We also got steamed eggs and bibim naengmyeon as sides. After placing our order, a variety of delicious-looking banchan and salad were served first, filling the table. The overall taste was clean and neat, and the banchan was well-prepared to complement the meat, which was satisfying.

The fresh galbi, when placed on the grill, released a nutty aroma, and its juicy, mild flavor was impressive. Thanks to the appropriate marbling, it was tender and not tough, allowing us to enjoy the natural taste of the meat without any special seasoning. The marinated galbi that followed had a rich marinade that clung well to the meat, and as soon as I took a bite, the sweet and salty harmony was definitely noticeable. The marinade was not overpowering and had a savory depth, making it hard to stop eating, and the subtle smoky flavor enhanced the overall taste.

The bibim naengmyeon, with its spicy and tangy seasoning, paired perfectly with the galbi. The seasoning was not too strong, so it didn’t overpower the flavor of the meat, and it provided a clean finish to the palate. On this day, I chose bibim naengmyeon, but the mul naengmyeon I had previously was also refreshing and delicious, so I think it would be nice to choose according to your preference. The steamed eggs were served in a bubbling earthen pot, and their fluffy texture and soft flavor were impressive. The seasoning was mild, making it a perfect complement to the main dishes, soothing the palate between bites of meat.
