Casual Handroll Spot in DTLA
Temaki Society, newly opened inside The Grayson Bar in Downtown LA, is a handroll specialty restaurant run by a chef with experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant. This place offers exquisite handrolls crafted with the chef’s meticulous touch, boasting a harmony of fresh ingredients and unique flavors.
In addition to the main menu of Handrolls, you can also enjoy a variety of dishes such as Tostada, Rice Bowl, and Sashimi. We ordered the Yellowtail Sashimi and Tuna Tostada, along with handrolls of Kombu Salmon, Seared Salmon, Creamy Uni, and Blue Crab.
The first dish, Yellowtail Sashimi, was a refreshing delight that filled the mouth with freshness. The soft yellowtail combined with the zesty flavor of lemon created a clean and refreshing taste in the mouth. Next, the Tuna Tostada stood out with its luxurious flavor combination; the fresh tuna paired with avocado provided a smooth texture and creamy taste, enhanced by a subtle hint of truffle, resulting in a rich overall flavor. The crispy tostada balanced the overall texture, making each bite even more satisfying.
Finally, the main dish, handrolls, arrived. Here, the handrolls are served with the seaweed skin peeled off just before eating to prevent it from getting soggy. The Kombu Salmon featured the soft texture of fresh salmon with a clean yet deep flavor, while the Seared Salmon showcased the appeal of moist, perfectly cooked salmon. Topped with chili oil and mustard dressing, it offered a rich taste balanced with just the right acidity. The Creamy Uni was generously topped with uni, filling the mouth with its rich flavor, while the spicy taste of jalapeño on top harmonized perfectly, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the uni’s nuttiness. The Blue Crab highlighted the sweet flavor of fresh blue crab, harmonizing beautifully with the soft avocado, adding a nutty taste that left a light yet satisfying aftertaste.
