Crispy Tempura Bowl
Tendon Tempura Carlos Junior, located in Torrance, is famous for its tendon, a Japanese dish featuring tempura served over rice.

The interior of the restaurant was divided between tables and the bar, and despite having quite a few tables, it was clear that it was a popular spot as it was packed shortly after opening. We ordered the Japanese Omelette, Premium Tempura Bowl, and Combo Plate with Soba and Mixed Sashimi Bowl from the various menu options. The Japanese Omelette, served as an appetizer, featured soft and moist eggs topped with grated daikon and drizzled with soy sauce. Eating the omelette with the daikon allowed us to enjoy the creamy texture and sweet flavor of the eggs alongside the clean and refreshing taste of the daikon.

Next, the Premium Tempura Bowl arrived, featuring tempura of eel, shrimp, seaweed, chili, and egg served over rice with sauce drizzled on top. All the tempura was crispy, and the savory sauce was slightly sweet yet salty, complementing the tempura perfectly. Personally, I found the eel, seaweed, and chili tempura to be the most delicious, and there are various types of Tempura Bowls available to choose from based on your preferences.
The Soba and Mixed Sashimi Bowl ordered as part of the Combo Plate looked appetizing at first glance. Dipping the chewy and nutty soba noodles into the tsuyu sauce provided a refreshing and clean taste. It was a bit warm that day, and I had lost my appetite, but tasting the soba brought my appetite back. The Mixed Sashimi Bowl, topped with tuna, yellowtail, and salmon, offered a fresh taste for each sashimi, and the rice was seasoned just right like sushi rice, pairing well with the sashimi.
