Uroko Cafe

California Style Poke Bowl

Urokos is derived from the Japanese expression ‘Me Kara Uroko’, which symbolizes the surprise and awakening at the moment of realizing the truth. In this way, Uroko Cafe aims to surprise guests with delicious poke bowls.

Uroko Cafe has two locations in Costa Mesa and Cypress, and we visited the Costa Mesa location. When we arrived, it was shortly after opening time, and seeing many people lined up to eat poke made us think it must be a popular spot.

We each chose our preferred base, sides, and protein for a 3 Scoop size poke bowl and ordered Takoyaki as an appetizer. The Tuna, Salmon, and Albacore we selected as protein were all fresh, and the combination of chosen vegetables and seasonings created a very harmonious flavor. In particular, the garlic chips and fried onions we chose as toppings added great texture. We selected Spicy Mayo and Sesame Oil for the sauce, but it tasted a bit lacking, so we added Uroko Original Sauce, which made it much tastier. The portion was quite generous; the 3 Scoop was just right for my brother, but a bit too much for me, so next time, I think the 2 Scoop size will be sufficient.

The small, round Japanese octopus balls, Takoyaki, that we ordered as an appetizer were freshly fried and warm. They were crispy on the outside while being moist and soft on the inside, and the combination of mayonnaise and Takoyaki sauce was truly delicious.
