Laveta

Minimalist Coffee Shop

I visited Laveta, a minimalist and modern café located near Echo Park, where you can feel simplicity. We arrived around 9 AM, and even at that early hour, there was already a line of people inside enjoying their coffee.

There was a menu board at the entrance, allowing us to check the menu before entering the café. The interior, which could feel a bit cold due to the walls, was warmed up with wooden tables, chairs, and lighting.

We ordered the Ube Latte, Matcha Misto, Breakfast Sandwich, and Cauliflower Bowl. The Ube Latte is made with ube (purple yam or taro) from the Philippines, and its intriguing purple color was a delight even before tasting it. It was moderately sweet and nutty, with a subtle hint of vanilla, and we could add cream on top of the latte for extra smoothness. The Matcha Misto features matcha topped with agave cream, and the clean taste of the matcha paired wonderfully with the gentle sweetness of the agave cream. For those who usually find lattes too heavy, the Matcha Misto is a drink that can be enjoyed without feeling overwhelmed.

The Breakfast Sandwich includes scrambled eggs, maple-candied bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes, with the option to choose between croissant or sourdough bread; we opted for sourdough. The ingredients inside the sandwich were fresh and delicious, especially the bread, which was incredibly tasty. Even my brother, who usually finds sourdough too hard, seemed to be captivated by the perfectly crispy yet soft bread. The Cauliflower Bowl contains cauliflower, sweet pumpkin puree, fresh green yogurt, and herb crust with grilled veggies, presenting a style of bowl I had never tried before. The well-roasted vegetables and cauliflower created a light yet balanced flavor with the sweet pumpkin puree. You could really appreciate the natural flavors of each vegetable, and it was a satisfying meal that didn’t leave you feeling bloated, making it a great option for those looking for a healthy yet delicious meal.

The photo above shows the dishes I had during my second visit. The drinks and food were so delicious that I visited again, and on that day, I ordered Mango Pesto Rice and Ube Waffle, with drinks Andante and Barista Horchata. The Mango Pesto Rice features rice topped with pesto sauce, mango, spring mix, and thinly sliced fries, creating a unique and rich flavor with the fragrant pesto sauce blending beautifully with the various ingredients. I thought the combination might not work well together, but it was so tasty that I couldn’t stop eating it. The Ube Waffle looks like a regular waffle, but inside, it has the subtle purple hue of ube, with a soft and chewy texture. When I spread the lemon curd that came with it and enjoyed it with berries, I could taste an even fresher and sweeter waffle.

Andante is a cold brew enhanced with maple syrup and topped with sweet cream, where the gentle sweetness of the maple syrup balances the bitterness of the cold brew, providing a smooth and rich texture. Lastly, Barista Horchata contains almond milk, maple syrup, and cinnamon, offering a pleasant taste with the nutty and smooth almond milk subtly infused with cinnamon. This is a menu I would recommend to anyone looking to enjoy unique drinks.
