Tijuana Bites
Located in Tijuana, Mexico, Mariscos el Mazateño is a local gem that I visited on the recommendation of my contact during a business trip. They specialize in seafood tacos, with no meat tacos on the menu, which made me curious about how different the seafood tacos would be, especially since I usually enjoy asada or shrimp tacos. Upon arriving at the restaurant, the atmosphere filled with locals naturally heightened my expectations.

After being shown to my seat, I pondered over the menu for a moment to decide which tacos to try, ultimately following my contact’s recommendation to order the Super Mazateña and Taco Pulpo Enchilado Crunchy.

First, the Super Mazateña is a taco filled with plump shrimp and cheese on a crispy tortilla. The moment I took a bite, the richness of the cheese complemented the flavor of the shrimp, filling my mouth with a delightful ocean aroma. It wasn’t greasy or heavy, and the combination of the crispy texture and seafood was impressive. Next, the Taco Pulpo Enchilado Crunchy is a taco packed with chewy octopus inside a crispy tortilla. I’m not usually a fan of octopus, but this one was so delicious that I couldn’t help but exclaim how good it was after just one bite. The octopus was tender yet had a nice bounce to it, and it wasn’t overly stimulating, making it easy to enjoy. The tacos were significantly larger than regular tacos, and with the generous filling and cheese, I found that just two were quite filling.
