Hawaiian-Inspired Food Made From The Soul
I visited Shootz, where you can taste Hawaiian fusion food, at the Rodeo 39 Public Market in Garden Grove, which is home to a variety of restaurants and cafes.
We ordered the plate menu items Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken, Kimchi Butter Shrimp, along with a side of Spam Brulee Musubi and Mint Peach Limeade. The Mint Peach Limeade that arrived first was a light green drink that felt refreshing, with the sweetness of peach and the invigorating scent of mint blending together beautifully.
The Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken that came next was made from tender fried chicken thighs, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, allowing you to savor the meat’s juices. I was concerned that the Kimchi Butter might be too spicy, but the kimchi flavor wasn’t overwhelming, and it was surprisingly mild. Personally, I prefer less spicy food, so I chose Regular, but if you enjoy a spicy style, you can opt for Spicy. The Kimchi Butter Shrimp came with six shrimp, which were larger than expected, so it didn’t feel like a small portion. The shrimp were also lightly battered, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. All plate menu items included Mac Salad and Steamed Rice, making for a simple yet hearty meal. Lastly, the Spam Brulee Musubi featured the basic spam musubi topped with brulee brown sugar and kimchi aioli sauce, creating a delightful balance of sweet and salty. The musubi can be chosen in 2pc or 4pc, making it a great side to try.
