Sqirl

Sink Your Teeth Into Healthy Decadence

Starting as a jam-making company in 2011, Sqirl expanded its services to a café in 2012, claiming that all the ingredients used are sourced from local farms.

Inside the restaurant, you can see an open kitchen to the left and a counter straight ahead. Uniquely, they make bread in a separate building right next door, and you can see them continuously bringing in the bread made there. After your meal, it’s fun to head over to the adjacent building to watch the bread-making process and browse through various charming items, wines, jams, and the cute plates used in the restaurant.

We ordered the Famed Ricotta Toast, Salmon Sorrel Pesto Rice, and drinks of Strawberry Matcha and Vegan Horchata. The Strawberry Matcha features matcha beverage with milk steeped in strawberry jam, topped with a sprinkle of strawberry powder, offering a rich matcha flavor with a subtle strawberry aroma. The Vegan Horchata is made with homemade almond milk, sprinkled with spices and cinnamon, providing a nutty flavor that differs from the usual sweetness.

The Famed Ricotta Toast, which was the most anticipated dish, came on a homemade brioche toast topped with ricotta cheese and four types of seasonal jams. The sweetness was just right, not overwhelming, and the harmony of the bread and ricotta cheese was delightful, living up to expectations. Finally, the Salmon Sorrel Pesto Rice, recommended by the staff, was prepared with pesto rice, roasted honey citrus broccoli, kale, French sheep’s milk feta cheese, lacto-fermented hot sauce, fresh dill, fried onions, and Scottish salmon. The cheese melted slightly into the warm rice, adding richness, and the kale provided a refreshing contrast. The salmon was perfectly cooked, tender, and delicious without any fishiness.
